Trilateral SMR Deployment Agreement by USA, Japan, South Korea Targets Indo-Pacific

The USA, Japan, and South Korea have formalized a trilateral cooperation agreement aimed at accelerating the deployment of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) in third countries, with an initial focus on the Indo-Pacific region. This memorandum of cooperation, signed during the NATO Summit in Turkey, seeks to foster fleet deployment models, streamline licensing, optimize supply chains, and catalyze private investment for SMR projects. Concurrently, an industry initiative involving GE Vernova, Hitachi, Samsung C&T, and SGE has been established to advance the BWRX-300 SMR design across Europe.
