Privacy Policy

Vereniging Thorium Energie takes your privacy seriously. This policy explains which personal data we process, why, on what legal basis, who we share it with, and the rights you have. We process as little data as possible and never sell it.

Data controller

Vereniging Thorium Energie, an association under Dutch law, is responsible for processing your personal data. You can reach us at info@thoriumenergie.nl.

Our Chamber of Commerce (KvK) number and postal address are available on request via info@thoriumenergie.nl and will be listed here once the association's registration is complete.

What data we process

Depending on how you interact with us, we process the following:

  • Membership: your name, email address, language preference, membership status, and confirmation of your payment.
  • Payment: payments run through bunq. We receive a confirmation but do not ourselves process any card or bank-account details.
  • Newsletter: your email address and language preference, for members only and with an unsubscribe option.
  • Login: your email address, for the one-time login code (OTP) that gives you access to the members' area.
  • Website usage: anonymised or aggregated statistics about how the site is used (see our cookie policy).

Why, and on what legal basis

We only process your data for clearly defined purposes, each with a legal basis:

  • To provide and manage your membership — basis: performance of the contract.
  • To process payments and keep records — basis: performance of the contract and legal obligation.
  • To send you the members' newsletter — basis: legitimate interest, with an unsubscribe option in every issue.
  • To let you log in securely and prevent abuse — basis: legitimate interest.
  • To measure and improve the website — basis: your consent.

Sharing with third parties

We engage carefully selected service providers (processors) under data-processing agreements. Your data is shared only as far as necessary:

  • bunq (Netherlands) — to take your membership payment.
  • Convex — to store our data; we aim to keep data within the EU.
  • Vercel — to host and deliver the website.
  • Google (Analytics, Ads, and admin sign-in) — for statistics and security, with appropriate safeguards for transfers outside the EU.
  • An email service — to send the newsletter and login codes.

How long we keep data

We keep your data no longer than necessary. Membership data is kept for as long as you are a member and thereafter for as long as the law requires. Payment and accounting data is kept under the statutory tax-retention period (generally seven years). Statistical data is kept in aggregated or anonymised form. After that, we delete or anonymise your data.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, erase, or restrict the processing of your data, as well as the right to data portability and to object. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Send your request to info@thoriumenergie.nl; we respond within the statutory period.

If you disagree with how we handle your data, you can lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).

Security and changes

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections and access on a need-to-know basis. We may update this policy from time to time; the date at the top reflects the most recent change.
